Natural wine from Abruzzo!

Ausonia is the name of a butterfly species that uniquely lives in the parcel land where the winery is located. It is quite rare to see this species of lepidoptera in other areas of Italy, which is why it is the icon of the winemaking philosophy of Simone and Francesca.

Ausonia's vineyards lie on clay and limestone soils; they benefit from the protection of the Gran Sasso massif and they are strongly influenced by the Adriatic sea and the biodiversity of the Calanchi di Atri nature reserve. The agricultural practice follows the principles of biodynamic and the indigenous grapes evolve into sincere wines that are a strong representation of the area. We really love this kind of pure wines.

The wine appellations are inspired by the local butterfly species and al the wines are unfined, unfiltered, and terribly true.

This Machaon is 100% made from natural pecorino grapes and has aged for a nice time in amphora barrels. This gives it the deeply intense orange color and flavor. Think juicy peaches and nectarine but not too overpowering. Very tasty with hearty soups, pastas, cheeses and soft charcuterrie.

Enjoy!
