Julie Balagny - En Rémont 2018. En Rémont is the lieu-dit, in which Julie has about 5 ha spread across Fleurie and Moulin-a-Vent. Beaujolais country! This is a jaw-dropping red wine. Bright and sunny up front with amazing length though its length comes not from tannin and traditional ‘power’ rather – it wanders off on the wind of chocolatey, raspberry acidity and something savory, akin to almonds.
This wine is made from the oldest vines, which are 100 years old - grown on granite mixed with pebbles and sand, and another parcel of granite and quartz. 6 weeks cold carbonic maceration, then 6-7 months in old barrels. No fining or filtration, bottled by hand, and then sealed with bees wax. Only 4000 bottles produced.
