DB Schmitt's wines are pure and fresh, full of personality and life. Rheinhessen is the largest wine-growing area in Germany and has so far been largely associated with mass production. In recent years, however, the region's reputation has begun to change as a new generation of younger, more innovative winemakers are reducing yields and refining the largely undervalued terroir of this region. Bianka and Daniel are the epitome of this new wave of German winemakers who are working hard to produce wines of the highest quality with as little intervention as possible. We count them among the Natural wine. Pioneers in Germany and are happy to have them on board.
The ecological winery Schmitt has been in family ownership for over 200 years. Bianka and Daniel have been cultivating their 16 hectares biodynamically for over a decade and are Demeter-certified as one of only 80 producers in Germany. They work with both amphorae and used oak barrels and produce pure natural wine mostly with no or minimal addition of sulfur on the market.
Almost a pét-nat classic from Daniel and Bianka Schmitt: the Pétillant Weiss 2020 has a super fruity nose, beer, peach and yeast cake. Looks firm in the mouth, but is a real flatterer. Summer in a glass - even more for the 2020 vintage!
The 2020 vintage has now got a champagne cork instead of the crown cap and a little more bubbles, was a requirement of the wine police;).
