Red wine is a wine created by fermenting must from blue grapes with the grape skins for some time. The dyes in the grape skins give the wine its red color. The variation in red hue is partly determined by the grape variety, but can also change during the lagering period. Young red wine is often somewhat purple in color, while some older wines are more orange or brownish red.
